9:01 pm - I went on a date!
|
The first one in years actually.
Finally got to the place where I'm ready to dip my toe in those waters again.. And it went ok. Which means I'm likely to do it again. :D
He is a narcotics detective who is also on the federal task force for child abductions. A good guy with ice blue eyes and very pale hair.
The best part, he actually treated me like a lady rather than a whore (like the bulk of the men in LA which is why I quit dating).
Perhaps there is hope

10:12 am - Yes, I'm Satan...
|
Or was last night for the two Halloween parties I went to (Seanna's birthday party and our set designers kids party).
tiny, subtle little horns and a nice suit. Oh, and a contract.. to be signed with a pen filled with blood.
The contract was nicely legal and involved the exchange of ownership of a human soul for 1 wish.
I got 4 souls last night. The demographic is probably indicative of these kinds of deals in general.
The first to sign was a director looking for funding for his film.
The second a man wanting an expensive film camera to further his career (and perhaps a little of my attention)
The third a young lady looking for a husband.
The fourth a intellectual trying to test her wits against Satan's.
I should write a movie about it. ;D

9:27 am - Life
|
Life is weird.
I've taken a job helping some elderly women who live alone. I find myself getting very attached to them (going up on my day off to take one to the doctor because she was afraid). The time takes away from what I'm trying to do on Raising Kayn and the other two things I'm writing right now but I needed to do it.
My weird idea that karma is real and if I'm giving to those who are neglected, then perhaps that good will come around to me often gets in the way of practical considerations. Which means life is more complicated now. Some of my friends here think I'm nuts because I'm not even getting enough to justify the gas to drive up to Salt Lake City every day for them... but I do hope to move to SLC in November (if I even have the money at all) so then it becomes more easy.
On other fronts, 3 old lovers/boyfriends have come forward and begun pursuing me somewhat. It surprises me. Not certain what I think about each of them yet.
And still struggling to finish the post production on Raising Kayn. This second half is so much better than the first half!
Vampires right now. Some of my favorite episodes. :)

8:09 am - Taunyas Casting Couch (written for a certain gentleman)
|
Taunya’s Casting Couch
“You can come in now.”
The young man walked in with a confident grin and handed her the glossy photo he carried.
“Please, have a seat.” The woman smiled back and gestured at the overstuffed couch that took a place of prominence in the small office.
The grin turned ever so slightly jaded at the corners, the young man placed himself carefully in the center as she turned away to place his photo on the desk, surreptitiously unbuttoning yet another of the dwindling closures that kept his well muscled chest hidden to the world.
“Before we proceed with the audition, I’d like you to do something for me.” The woman said diffidently as she turned and noted him posed artfully. His smile was confident, but at her words a fleeting bit of nervousness crossed the chiseled face and his eyes flicked to the cleavage her blouse exposed.
“I’d just like to say Ms. Gren, how very excited I am for this opportunity.” He patted the cushion next to him.
“I’m glad to hear that.” She moved to join him on the couch.
As she settled onto the padded surface the tactics of his placement became clear, her thigh touching the length of his in the close quarters.
“You know I’d do just about anything to be part of this project.” His voice dropped to a husky whisper at her proximity.
“Anything?” She looked at him a moment. “Tell me, how would you make the world better?”
Confusion crossed his expressive face for a moment then cleared. His confident smile back in place he leaned in to her a little. “I know what I would do to make you feel better.”
She glanced over at him. “I bet you do.” She touched his knee lightly. “So, what are you doing to build yourself as a human being?”
The confusion that crossed his face stayed this time.. “I… uh… well, I work out. I take lessons..”
She interrupted him. “How do you feel you can change this industry for the better?”
Trying to pull things back into familiar territory he leaned in to touch her face. “I think we could talk about all this later, over dinner.”
She smiled and whispered close to his lips, “Have you ever read about Ghandi?”
“Ghandi?”
“Perhaps Schweitzer?”
“Ur….”
“Muhammad Yunus?”
His sputtered responses fell to silence and he just looked at her, lost and confused. Clearly not understanding.
She sighed and stood. “Thank you for your time.” Her gesture to the door made it clear the “interview” was over.
With an almost frightened glance back at her, the young man exited quickly.
She shook her head and with a disappointed grimace deposited his photo into the small garbage can next to the desk where it tucked nicely in with the other discards. Once more she moved to the door and gestured at the next handsome man seated outside holding a photo.
“You can come in now.”

11:27 am - Episode 4 of Raising Kayn is out today at www.raisingkayn.com
|
And what's that were-wolf eating? EW!!!!!!
Edited with the director last night... and for the first time we were able to watch the new episode together as it came up online.
We talked about how much like having a child this is. He's the dad, I'm the mom. And even after you have it, the work and effort and worry doesn't go away. :p
Also how making the hard decisions for the sake of the child is. Deciding to risk offending the effects guy or the music guy or the sound guy because you think the child is better without something. Or with something different.
I look forward to when THIS child graduates and becomes an adult. :D

10:50 am - Raising Kayn Episode 2 is up! And what do I think about that
|
Yup, we've made it to a second episode! This one I think is funnier than episode 1 AND you can see it full screen now! Also boosted the dialog sound A LOT so hopefully that's not an issue this time.
A lot of people are asking me how it feels to finally have it out there.
I don't know yet.
I'm still in the morass of editing, effects and pushing our post production sound fixer to do anything at all... and marketing it to make some money to pay those who worked so hard on this. So any kind of "whew" moment or pride or anything yet hasn't hit me. It's not done for me I guess so I don't feel accomplished...yet.
Fortunately our composer is totally kicking butt and taking names. Fast, brilliant and ON TIME! I really wish some of the post production team (as in, the sound guy) was as professional. *sighs*

I'm working on season 2's outline right now for Raising Kayn (www.raisingkayn.com) and could use a little perspective.
What's your favorite monster? Vampires? Werewolves? Gargoyles? Zombies? Banshees? etc....

12:35 pm - When did being a mom become the only identity a woman over 40 can have?
|
In the good news, I just got another part I auditioned for.
In the mixed news..... .once again it is the "mom". (rant warning)
All the parts that I've seen for women my age recently are either the mom or the bitch businesswoman. That's it. That's the sum total of experience that apparently can be attributed to women who the directors don't want to have sex with anymore. Hollywood has influenced us to much that really all that exists are sex symbols or moms for those doing media. When the mom is in her 30's she can maybe go for both, but after that... just the mom. And more often than not, the mom is the throwaway part for the writer and the director.
Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE being a mother. It is a significant part of my life experience and one I treasure. However, it isn't all that I, and every other woman around my age, experience by a very long shot.
That goes against the very foundation of what acting, what theater and film, are about.
As Oscar Wilde said "I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being."
That's what I love about acting. Taking a piece of paper and making a living, breathing person out of it. It's an act of creation that (as Shakespeare said) holds the mirror up to nature and shows us what and who we are, as well as what or who we want to be. When my own media disregards huge sections of that humanity I have to look askance.
So, (other than ranting in my blog) what am I doing about it?
I'm writing.
Writing my own stuff that (hopefully) can be wacky and funny and action filled and yet REAL and true to all the range of humanity that Hollywood ignores in it's self-absorbed bubble. Writing characters who are older women and men who kick ass and have romance and adventure and younger characters who are learning and growing and being real, and dangerous characters who aren't 25 years old with chiseled jaws and nerd characters who are the powerful and so on.
And I'm going to film it too since I'm pretty sure that the powers that be in our entertainment industry aren't interested in characters that really buck the slick celluloid cloning process they espouse. I've actually taken a lot of inspiration from Joss Whedon. Firefly failed because it wasn't a clone. Dollhouse may succeed because it is. However, Dr. Horrible takes the box and stands it on it's head and he did that for himself as a protest to the powers that be.
I think all of us that can, should do our own stuff. Stuff that bucks the limited confines of the box Hollywood has built for itself.
Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!

9:08 am - Writer's Block: Animal Instinct
|
For myself I'd choose a tiger. Fierce, loner, good mother to her children. Ready to let them go when they're adult.
However, I've been told by two different shamans now that my spirit guide is actually a spider. I guess in native mythos the spider represents wisdom. For myself I take it to represent defeating the bad in life.

3:06 pm - We start moving tomorrow!
|
Irishprinzessin and her hubby close on their new condo tomorrow so we're all going to start moving tomorrow night. YAY! They were very nervous because the mortgage guy delayed putting it through and the interest rate went way up! So, he delayed a little more and then it went down again a week later. *pinches eyes* Even he has no idea why.
In dragon news, I just got a new egg today! There hasn't been any for several days when I've looked. And my first 2 have hatched. :D I can't wait to see them grown up.
Here they are:
